Diabolos Ex Deus
Each night*, you & the Storyteller may each choose a player (they must): both die
“MY DEAR KING AND COUNTRYMEN! Your new god harks his first command, as he sees the new world created anew from the innocent flicker to the bleating of a lamb born pre-winter. From dedication and resilience we banish the hellish facade of the prior disgusting world and embrace this, perfect utopia. Research your doctrine, ponder the scripture, and sit silently and willingly to the faultless sanctimony. Yes.... yes.... perfect.”
The Diabolos Ex Deus collaborates with the Storyteller on who dies.
ETYMOLOGY: Deus ex Machina and Diabolos ex Machina, but corrupted in such a way that it's 'The Devil from God'.
- The Diabolos Ex Deus may choose to kill a player, or choose to kill no-one.
- The Storyteller cannot choose a dead player. They may choose a player who is protected from death, however, or cannot die for some other reason. The Diabolos Ex Deus knows who the Storyteller chooses, but does not learn if they lived or died and does not learn their character.
- While the Diabolos Ex Deus may choose not to kill, the Storyteller must always attack a player with the Diabolos Ex Deus ability.
Examples
On the second night, the Diabolos Ex Deus kills the Conspiracist, and the Storyteller kills the Tinker. On the third night, the Diabolos Ex Deus kills no-one, and the Storyteller attacks the Scribe, who is protected by the Bird-of-Paradise. On the fourth night, the Diabolos Ex Deus kills the Local Hero, so the Storyteller kills the Vagabond.
How to Run
Each night except the first, wake the Diabolos Ex Deus. They either shake their head no or point at any player. If they pointed at any player, that player dies—mark them with the DEAD reminder.
Then, you point at any player. That player dies—mark them with the second DEAD reminder.
Put the Diabolos Ex Deus to sleep.

Consider making your choice of who to kill in such a way that it balances out who the Diabolos Ex Deus chose: if they killed quite an important role, consider killing an Outsider or a spent Townsfolk; if they chose a spent or protected role, consider killing something that would be a neutral kill. The Diabolos Ex Deus gains benefit from there being two kills per night, so you should almost never kill important targets yourself.
